Young people's bus travel gets cheaper and more convenient

28 June 2019

Bus travel is now even greater value for under 19s as MCard has announced that from 1 July young people can load up their Blue MCard with MyDay Tickets.

MyDay was launched last summer in collaboration with young people and gives all under 19s unlimited travel on any bus* across West Yorkshire for just £2.75.  Now, MyDay tickets can be loaded in multiples of 1,3,5 or 10 with the price coming down to just £2.50 each when loading 10.

Mae Presley, member of the Leeds Youth Council said:

“Leeds Youth Council was involved in the launch of the new MyDay ticket. I am delighted to be involved in this year’s MyDay for under 19s campaign. It’s quicker and easier all around to have your MyDay tickets on your Blue MCard. Buying a few at a time means I get it cheaper and I don’t have to worry about change for the bus.”

MyDay tickets can be loaded onto Blue MCards via the MCard app, through MCard ticket machines and at Bus Station Travel Centres. MyDay will also remain available to purchase on the bus at £2.75.

Richard Armitage, Chair of the West Yorkshire Ticketing Company, a not-for-profit joint venture between West Yorkshire’s bus and rail operators and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, said:

“MyDay tickets have been a great success since their introduction last year with over 160,000 tickets bought. We expect making it even cheaper and easier for young people will prove even more popular. Once they have loaded their tickets onto their Blue MCard all young people have to do is scan their card as they board their bus”
