MyDay ticket for Under 19s is a winner!

03 October 2018

MyDay, the new all-day, £2.60 county-wide bus ticket for West Yorkshire’s under 19s has been hailed a success.

Launched in July, the money-saving MyDay has been used by thousands of young people to travel throughout West Yorkshire over the summer holidays.

Over 25,000 of the multi-operator MyDay tickets were sold over the summer. Bus companies recorded a 25% increase on multi-operator child bus ticket sales over last year in August alone, which proves the MyDay offer was too good to miss.

MCard worked with the Leeds Youth Council and other young people’s groups to develop and promote MyDay.

Richard Cracknell from Leeds City Council said: “The Youth Council members really enjoyed the challenge of shaping the MyDay brand to make sure the end product would engage with young people.  These results clearly show that it was pitched absolutely right and it’s great to see that so many under 19s have benefited from cheaper travel this summer.”

Richard Armitage, Chair of West Yorkshire Ticketing Company that manages the range of MCard tickets, said: “We have been delighted with the results and grateful to all the young people across the county who helped with this campaign.  Making bus travel more attractive to young people is one of our core aims and removing barriers to travel by not needing to show an Under 16 or 16-18 MCard for this particular ticket has definitely helped.  What’s even better is to see so many young people using public transport and making the most of their free-time over the summer getting out and about. We plan to continue developing and promoting our ticket range and retailing options for our Under 19 customers.”
