Local students showcase how bus and train travel keeps up with their lifestyles

30 August 2019

In a campaign created by young people for young people, three students have teamed up with MCard to showcase how the money-saving 19-25 or Student PhotoCard keeps up with their lifestyles.

25 year old Daniela, a Language Student at Leeds University, Emmanuel, 19 who studied Triple Science and Sports at Notre Dame college and Veronique from Wakefield who is 21 and working full time were thrilled to be able to showcase their lives as part of the Work Card, Play Card MCard campaign.

The 19-25 or Student PhotoCard provides holders with huge savings on unlimited bus and train travel throughout West Yorkshire when loaded with weekly, monthly or termly tickets. Up to 45% discount off the equivalent adult-priced ticket. They are available to anyone aged under 26, whether they are studying, working or just want much cheaper travel as well as to full-time students aged over 26.  The range of tickets start at just £16 per week for unlimited West Yorkshire travel on any bus and weekly, monthly and termly options are available. The Autumn term costs £275 and gives unlimited bus and train travel for 17 weeks equivalent to £2.25 a day.

The latest MCard campaign shows an Instagram style snapshot of each of their lives travelling around West Yorkshire using their MCard.

Daniela who took part in the campaign said:

“I love having an MCard, particularly at the weekends. I just love the freedom it gives me and do so much more than I would if I didn’t have one. So as well as using it to get to Uni, my friends and  to all the places we want to go, it makes day to day life a lot easier and I save so much on travel that I have more money to enjoy myself.   Thanks for featuring me in the campaign, it’s been so much fun!”

Richard Armitage, Chair of the West Yorkshire Ticketing Company, a not-for-profit joint venture between West Yorkshire’s bus and rail operators and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, said:

“The cost of transport can be a barrier to young people getting to work and accessing further education that can improve their career prospects. So it’s great to be able to showcase real people who are using MCards to live their lives, work hard but also want to enjoy what West Yorkshire has to offer. This card with its huge discounts enables them to do that cheaply and conveniently.

“You can follow their stories on MCard’s Instagram, Facebook and Twitter channels.  For more information and to order a free PhotoCard, visit m-card.co.uk and then, you can top it up with travel via the free MCard Android app, at bus and rail station ticket machines, from Payzone outlets or from your local Bus Station Travel Centre in West Yorkshire”.
