New MCard prices 2024

14 February 2024

Prices for both bus-only and bus & rail MCard tickets will change on Sunday 03 March 2024.

Multi-Zonal Bus & Rail Tickets

Following the Department for Transport’s guidelines on rail price increases for 2024 and a detailed review of our prices, rail zonal MCards (combined bus and rail) and the cost of rail-only travel will increase by 4.9% from Sunday 3 March 2024.

We have done our best to keep price increases to a minimum to ensure MCard tickets still offer great value for money for travel throughout West Yorkshire.

Prices for tickets shown below will be changing from Sunday 3 March.

Bus Tickets

For several years, MCard bus ticket prices have remained frozen or have been reduced to encourage more people to use public transport. However high inflation and rising costs have compelled us to review the whole ticket range for countywide bus travel.

Operators have been able to freeze single and return fares for adults and Under 19s, including the £2 maximum adult single fare. But tickets for daily, weekly and monthly travel have increased for adults, 19-25 and Under 19 year olds.

We still think these fares offer excellent value for money, especially compared to the cost of driving and parking and considering that MCard tickets are valid for unlimited travel on any operator’s services throughout West Yorkshire.

The following prices will be effective from Sunday 3 March 2024.

More Tips for Flexible Travel and Best-Value Tickets

Whether you’re a frequent traveller with a season ticket or you prefer to buy more flexible day tickets, you can save with MCard.

Day tickets for adults and Under 19s are ideal if you want to keep your travel options open.  You can save through buying carnet tickets (i.e. multiple day tickets) in one transaction. For example, 10 DaySaver or MyDay tickets provide a 10% saving or in other words you buy 9 tickets and get 1 free. And with the MCard Mobile app you have up to 12 months to activate them on the day you wish to travel.

Longer term tickets such as Monthly and Annual MCards offer the best value for money for frequent public transport travellers on any bus or train within West Yorkshire (excluding special services).

Make your commute easier and more affordable with discounts of up to 12%. Check if your employer is part of the West Yorkshire Travel Plan Network and sign up to their salary deduction scheme to get a Corporate Annual MCard or a Mega DaySaver offer of 50 or 100 day tickets to use within a year.

Termly, Academic Year and Annual bus tickets are also available for Under 19s through some schools and colleges and via our MCard Mobile app, offering up to 69% off the adult price. To protect these amazing discounts, drivers may challenge younger people who look older than 19, so we advise older teenagers to carry age verification to prove their entitlement.
